I photographed this scene on my winter 2018 trip to Death Valley National Park. It was an incredibly windy day, but I was determined to make the most of the situation. The cloudless sky wasn’t ideal for wide photos, so I turned my attention toward small subjects at my feet. This large rock caught my eye. I loved the texture of the rock, and how the strong wind eroded the sand surrounding it. I set up my camera, then waited for the soft light just after sunset to take this photograph.
