Fleeting Glimpse
Fleeting Glimpse
I photographed this scene during the winter of 2021. In many ways, I didn’t think a trip to Death Valley was in the cards this year. When I visited Zion earlier in the year, the campgrounds in Death Valley were still closed due to pandemic restrictions. It was only near the end of my trip to Zion that the campgrounds in Death Valley reopened. After returning home and regrouping from my trip to Zion, I made a special return trip to Death Valley. The weather was very calm much of the week, which gave me an opportunity to do some much needed exploring. I photographed this photo of a sand dune at the very moment when the sun was partially obstructed by the horizon, leading to a wonderful mix of warm and cool light.
This photo was taken on Fuji Velvia 50 transparency film with a Nikkor-W 300mm 5/6 lens on an Arca-Swiss F-Metric 8x10 view camera.
