Ponderosa & Maple
Ponderosa & Maple
I photographed this scene on my fall 2015 visit to Zion National Park. While wandering the washes on the east side of the park, I hiked past this tree coming from the other direction. I liked the look of the maple flanking the massive ponderosa pine trunk, but the lighting wasn't quite right, and the tree looked less than ideal.
When I once again hiked past this scene while returning to my truck, I saw that the backside of the tree was very clean, and the lighting was ideal. It pays to look all around you while looking for subjects. Sometimes there is a great photo from only a slightly different angle.
