Thermal Spring
Thermal Spring
I took this photo on a summer 2009 trip to Yellowstone National Park with my wife. I loved the color and structure of this part of the Black Pool in the West Thumb Geyser Basin. When my wife and I returned the next year, we noticed that this area had changed, and the yellow/orange section at the bottom had lost its color because the water flow had changed.
The color in this scene is from bacteria that thrive in the boiling water of this natural hot spring. Greens and blues designate the hottest water, and yellows and oranges show water that is cooler.
