UPDATE: The camera’s owner has been located! Thanks everyone!!
This past October, my friend Luke Riding found a camera at the base of Angels Landing in Zion National Park. For those of you who are not familiar with Angels Landing, it is a popular trail in Zion that straddles the ridge of a massive sandstone monolith that juts out into the main canyon of Zion. There are sheer drops on either side of the trail, both of which are over 1,000 feet. Here’s a video I made of that hike many years ago.
Though the camera was heavily damaged, Luke was able to download the contents of the memory card, and he enlisted my help to try and use social media to track down the owner of the camera. Our goal is to find the owner so we can give them their long lost vacation photos, along with the camera itself — it would make a great conversation piece!
According to the EXIF data, one of the photos atop Angels landing was taken on September 28, 2015 at 6:02AM. However, the light is not consistent with that time of day, so we know at least the time was not set accurately. The camera is heavily damaged, but it doesn’t look like it had been there for three years, so perhaps the camera took a tumble more recently.
